Sociology Minor
The Sociology Minor has been discontinued as of Fall 2016
The Sociology minor can only be pursued by students who are eligible for the Fall 2015-6 catalog or an earlier catalog.
Students who entered UCSC as a Frosh are eligible for the Sociology minor if:- They entered UCSC in 2015-16 academic year or prior
- And have not taken a break in attendance greater than two years (six regular quarters)
Students who entered UCSC as a Transfer are eligible for the Sociology minor if:
- They entered UCSC in the 2018-19 academic year or prior
- Entry in their previous collegiate institution was not more than three years prior to the time of transfer to UCSC.
- And have not taken a break in attendance greater than two years (six regular quarters)
Requirements
ONE Lower-Division Course Required to Declare the Minor
One of the following three course options must be completed with a grade of C or better prior to declaring the minor. A major must be declared prior to declaring a minor.
- SOCY 1 Introduction to Sociology - Offered Fall, Spring, and Summer
- SOCY 10 Issues and Problems in American Society - Offered Winter and Summer
- SOCY 15 World Society (CC GE) - Offered Fall and Summer
TWO Upper-Division Core Courses
- SOCY 105A Classical Social Theory - Offered Fall, Winter, and Summer
- SOCY 105B Contemporary Social Theory - Offered Winter, Spring and Summer
THREE Upper-Division Elective Courses
- Sociology electives are numbered SOCY 110-189
- One of the three required electives may be a course substitution.
