Sociology Minor

Required Coursework

Students wishing to minor in sociology are required to take seven courses: at least one of the lower division Sociology courses (1, 10, or 15); at least two Sociology courses from 103B, 105A, or 105B; and at least four other upper division elective Sociology courses. Students must earn a grade of B or better in their lower division Sociology course before declaring the minor. With departmental approval ONE of your four upper division Sociology electives is eligible for substitution. See the information regarding Upper Division Electives in the Sociology Major section for details regarding what courses are eligible for substitution. Bring your course syllabus and any written work for the course you would like considered for approval toward the minor to the Sociology Undergraduate Advisor. Please note that a course can only count toward one major or minor program – it may not satisfy the requirements in two separate degree programs.

Prerequisite to Declaring the Minor

Students must pass and/or earn a grade of B or better in at least one of the following courses before delcaring the minor: Sociology 1, 10, or 15.

Declaration

Once you have completed the lower-division course of your choice with a B or better, you may declare the minor by setting up an appointment with the Sociology Undergraduate Advisor within the first four weeks of the quarter. Declaring the minor should take place in the same quarter as declaring your major if possible.
