Independent Study Students may elect to pursue an independent study to supplement their experience at UCSC. In an independent study, the student works directly with a faculty member to pursue a subject of interest to the student. For students to enroll in an independent study in the Sociology department they must obtain a faculty sponsor to work with. This must be a faculty member, and cannot be a lecturer, teaching fellow, or graduate student. To enroll in an independent study, students must fill out the Individual Studies Petition (PDF), and obtain the faculty sponsor’s signature. Once the form is complete, students should bring the form to the department office to obtain an enrollment number. A combined total of six hours of work per week are required for two units, and fifteen hours of work a week are required for five units. |
