  • Welcome to the Fall 2011 Cohort: LUZ CORDOBA, ODED LONAI, KRISTIN MILLER, NADIA ROCHE, and YVONNE SHERWOOD.
  • ENROLLMENT CODES are available for Socy 297/299. Turn in the completed form, signed by the supervising faculty, to Ann McCardy. For full instructions, refer to email (Aug 5). If you are taking an independent study with faculty from another department, you will likely need to contact the other department for the enrollment code (however, Sociology does have enrollment codes for a small number of instructors 'affiliated' with the department).
  • ENROLLMENT STICKERS are available. You may pick up your sticker after you've enrolled in a minimum of five units. In order to avoid a late transaction fee, you must be fully enrolled by the enrollment deadline (Sept 30). All part-time students must be enrolled in 5 units, and full-time students should be enrolled in 10 units if non-ABD, 5 units if ABD.
  • NEW STUDENT PHOTO IDs: In your first quarter only, you will receive your enrollment sticker from ID Services in Bay Tree Bookstore since it will be given to you when you get your student ID card. Note that there are dedicated times for graduate students (Sept 6, 23-24). The other times are reserved for undergraduate students. (Starting in your second quarter, you will pick up the sticker from the Grad Advisor.)
  • MANDATORY: International Graduate Student Orientation. Monday September 19, 1:30-4pm, Classroom Unit 1. This orientation is separate from any department orientation. Details, when available.
  • GRADUATE STUDENT ORIENTATION & BBQ. Tuesday September 20, beginning at 10am. Schedule of Activities This event is sponsored by the Graduate Student Association (GSA). This is a student-sponsored event. It's not mandatory that you attend, but it's fun and an opportunity to meet other new and current graduate students campuswide.
  • SOCIOLOGY FALL RECEPTION. Wednesday September 28, 4:30-6pm, College Eight Room 201. This is a chance for new students to meet faculty and continuing students and to celebrate the start of a new academic year.
  • Please accept your Sociology TA offers for 11-12, if you haven't done so already. Please email Ben Ruwe (ruwe@ucsc.edu) and Ellen Borger (ellen@ucsc.edu). Most Sociology responses are due by Aug 25, or earlier (as shown in the offer). For those with offers from other departments, please respond by the appropriate deadline.
